Advent - Day 16

Day 16 : Colton & Lee Salyards

Scripture : John 1:1-8

DEVOTION

Start by reading John 1:1-8. On Christmas, Jesus Christ was born, though He did not come into existence at that time because He is eternal. In this passage, John writes about Jesus,
a human yet also the Creator of the universe. We exist because God created us. He created us with specific gifts that make us unique and valuable to achieve His purpose. Living without Him would be abandoning the purpose for which we were made. “The darkness can never extinguish the light” means evil will never overcome God’s light.  Jesus Christ brings light to humankind which allows us to see ourselves as we really are (sinners in need of a Savior). He removes the darkness of sin from our lives and lights the path ahead so we can see how to live. Jesus is the true light helping us see our way to God. We are to be a reflection of this light, on display to an unbelieving world.

REFLECTION

How can we reflect the light of Christ rather than ourselves?

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, You are the author of life and all things. Please help us to acknowledge who we really are and how in need of a Savior we are. Help us to reflect Your light to the world (our friends, family, and co-workers). We love you. Amen!

ACTIVITY

Find a family with kids and offer to watch them so they can go on a date.
